Your luggage

We want to ensure that you get the most out of your holiday and we know there’s nothing worse than being weighed down with luggage, especially when you’re walking. For this reason, your main luggage will be transferred from hotel to hotel while you concentrate on enjoying your walk. This means that you can bring what you want without the burden of transporting it all. Each day, you will just need to carry your essentials in a small rucksack, and you’ll be reunited with all your belongings at the end of each day.

Finding your way

There’s no need to spend hours planning ahead of your self-guided walking holiday with Explore. We’ll supply you with detailed, accurate and easy to follow routes, notes and maps, taking the worry of route finding or getting lost away from you. You will then be able to maximise your holiday enjoyment, stress-free. To ensure you get the most out of your stops, we will provide you with useful practical information as well as ideas on the best things to do. You’ll be able to enhance your stay with our insider tips which include everything from visiting sites to where the best cappuccinos are sold.

Accommodation

Our hotels are hand-selected for their character, comfort and warm welcome. We use a wide range of 2 to 4 star accommodation types including family-run, locally-owned, hotels, farmhouses and charming guesthouses. All have en-suite facilities. On some of the more challenging walking holidays we will use hand selected, family-run mountain huts.

What do you need?

The beauty of a self-guided walking holiday with Explore is that you can leave pretty much everything to us! We will do all the planning, provide the itinerary; you just need to bring some essentials along to ensure you are as comfortable as possible whilst you are walking. We strongly advise you to bring a good rucksack which is comfortable to wear; it needs to be big enough to carry your water, camera equipment, a spare fleece and waterproofs. In addition we also recommend walking poles. These are always a personal preference; they can be very useful on some of the more challenging walks with the ascents and descents.

Getting to your destination

We recommend the most suitable airports for each holiday and recommended latest arrival/departure times (to fit with the public transport options). We can provide private transfers or detailed information to assist you in reaching your destination by public transport. Your tour notes will clearly explain how to get from the most suitable airports to the joining point and from end point of your walk to your hotel.

We also offer a flexible range of flying options to aid joining your tour, please see page 7 for details.
