Small Group Adventures

Our walking and trekking groups are small, generally with around 12 people and up to a maximum of 16. The tours are flexible, informal and fun – sharing the adventure with a small group of like- minded trekkers is part of the experience. Our groups are made up of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Usually half are travelling on their own and the rest as couples or groups of friends. You’ll quickly find yourself making new friends and enjoying the camaraderie.

Expert Tour Leader

Each group will be accompanied by a Tour Leader who generally doubles up as the trekking guide. With first-hand knowledge of the walks, local customs and weather patterns, our Tour Leaders ensure that your tour runs smoothly and safely. Our Tour Leaders pace the treks to ensure that no- one gets left behind. Their fun and friendly approach as well as their passion helps turn great walks and treks into outstanding ones.

At your own Pace

You can generally walk at your own pace, unless for safety reasons your Tour Leader needs to keep everyone together. The Tour Leader will advise when it’s OK for you to go ahead and will always ensure that the person at the back doesn’t get left behind. On some treks there will be a second guide to act as a back marker. There will be regular rest stops and a longer stop for lunch where generally the whole group will gather together.

Fitness

Having suitable fitness for your chosen trek is important; however, attitude and stamina can also help you get to the top of a steep incline, even when your legs are tiring. The general rule is, the fitter you are the more you will enjoy your chosen holiday rather than struggling with the route. To help you choose the more suitable walking holiday for your level of fitness, we have plenty of information on pages 10 and 11 about trek grades. But don’t forget, you can always give us a call and speak to someone who’s been to where you’re thinking of going.

Your Accommodation

Accommodation is carefully selected to suit the tour and ranges from hotels, lodges and teahouses to tents, mountain refuges, village houses and Alpine huts. Full details of the accommodation used can be found on each tour page at the top of the Tour Essentials box and also on the tour notes which can be downloaded from our website.

Trekking for all ages

Our tours are suitable for anyone who is fit and healthy, no matter what their age. Our groups bring together people from their late teens to 70-somethings. Fitness and stamina are more important than age; indeed, we often find some of our older customers are the fittest in the group!
