CHAPTER 15 Considerations for Clients with Musculoskeletal Issues
THINK IT THROUGH
1. Programming for a Client with Low-back Dysfunction Consider the following when designing this client’s program:
This client has a mostly sedentary job (computer engineer).
You don’t know the exact cause of his intermittent low-back pain. However, it is possible he may have some range of motion restriction and tight hip flexors and/or weak core due to prolonged periods of sitting.
Start by addressing faulty posture (with postural assessments) and any flexibility concerns.
What exercises could you include from the daily routine for enhancing low-back health pictured in the textbook?
Keep in mind that he has committed to two days a week of cardiorespiratory training (30 minutes) and two days a week of muscular training.
Leverage body-weight exercises as tolerated and keep repetitions between 8 and 10 to avoid extreme fatigue.
What exercises could you include that align with his overall goals (coaching, soccer, and gardening)?
