Preparticipation Health Screening CHAPTER 5 6. C. Remove any unnecessary barriers to becoming more physically active
The ACSM preparticipation guidelines are designed to remove any unnecessary barriers to becoming more physically active. Risk-factor profiling or classification is not part of the exercise preparticipation health-screening process because supporting evidence is lacking for the presence of risk factors without underlying disease increasing the risk for activity-related cardiovascular events and screening must not become a barrier to participation.

7. B. Reducing unnecessary barriers to exercise Preparticipation health screening for individuals wanting to initiate an exercise program may be conducted using the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire for Everyone (PAR-Q+) form. This form is evidence-based and was developed with a goal of reducing unnecessary barriers to exercise. The PAR-Q+ can be used as either a self-guided screening tool or as an additional element of screening for use by personal trainers seeking additional client information.
