Texture Plus - the quest for aesthetics and efficacy

The formulators quest for a new texture, a wow feeling and a point of difference for consumers is never ending. First impressions count and having the

right texture for your product can make all the difference to the consumer when choosing a beauty product. Your chosen product needs to feel good on the skin, be efficacious and work well in the chosen packaging. Having the correct texture can have many beneficial effects when it comes to cosmetic products, it can help signal the quality and luxuriousness of the product, it can offer consumers a wow sensation that brings the user back to try the product again and again. It also has several other more functional benefits. Having the right texture can be vitally

important to the way the formulation works on the skin. Too thick and the product won’t spread efficiently, too thin and the product will not give a sufficient film thickness and may run off. Having the correct texture is also important

when it comes to the selected packaging, a shower gel should not drip from the packaging but also not be so thick that it slides down the drain before you have a chance to use it! It’s important that the texture you choose matches the proposed components and the method used by the consumer to apply the product. More recently, we have seen a new wave of

transforming textures, powder to oil, milk to oil, and many more that offer the consumer a visual and sensorial change when the product is in use. The influence of K-Beauty has also brought lighter emulsions that give a watery sensation on the skin. Food textures are also a key inspiration for cosmetic products and mousses, jellies and butters are all familiar terms now used in personal care. Above all, however good your product

texture is it’s important that your formulation performs too. To have texture and nothing extra doesn’t always lead to customer satisfaction.
