418. salting out assisted liquid–liquid extraction (SALLE) The extractive process by which a solution is supersaturated with salt to cause the formation of a biphasic system between a water sample and a water miscible sample. Analytes partition between the two phases, and typically the organic phase, is taken for analysis.
419. sample A generic
term encompassing
calibrators,
controls, unknowns and processed samples. Also see ‘Specimen’.
420. sample diluent Aqueous or organic fluids used to dilute the analyte prior to the analytical process (e.g., chromatographic separation, derivatization, binding to a receptor or antibody).
421. sample pretreatment A process whereby fluid or tissue samples are homogenized, lysed, digested, sonicated, pulverized or diluted prior to analysis.
