PROCUREMENT

The National School, in conjunction with the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), is committed to improving purchasing performance by maintaining and developing the professional skills of those engaged in procurement work.

Procurement expertise is one of the key competencies needed to improve the delivery of public services. For further information, see:

Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply

Advanced and Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Graduate Diploma is a degree level qualification. It is an increasingly important qualification for those wishing to pursue a procurement based career, whether in the public, private or voluntary sector. It is often a prerequisite for procurement posts and, in many government departments, achieving the Graduate Diploma attracts a procurement allowance of up to £4,000 per annum.

The National School has a long standing and fruitful relationship with CIPS. We are a CIPS approved training provider, and we have been rated by CIPS as a Centre of Excellence for each of the last 10 years.

The examinations are set and assessed by CIPS. These examinations are normally held at Sunningdale Park.

The Government Certificate of Competence in Purchasing and Supply

The Government Certificate of Competence in Purchasing and Supply is designed and administered jointly by the National School and the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). The Certificate of Competence caters specifically for the needs of those working in the Public Sector and gives full exemption from the CIPS Foundation Diploma (Level 4) qualification. The Certificate is awarded on successful completion of all four modules (PC1A, PC1B, PC2 and PC3) the three associated examinations, and a work logbook. A growing number of departments offer a procurement allowance of up to £1,500 per annum to procurement staff who achieve the Certificate of Competence.
