Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to our programme directory for 2010–11, a year that promises both stimulation and huge challenges for the Civil Service to achieve more with less.
We are here to help you and your team develop greater capacity to handle those challenges. We can inspire new thinking and offer experienced leadership in government. As a government department, we also understand the context in which you work – which helps you get tangible practical benefit from learning.
Within the Civil Service, change is underway in learning and development too. We are delighted to have been commissioned by Permanent Secretaries to create a common programme of core learning and development for the Civil Service. We are co-developing this with departments – harnessing and sharing knowledge, experience and best practice from within, to build a programme that will accelerate the transformation of public services.
The new Core Learning Programme will start to be rolled out in 2010 and will help deliver greater value from learning and development. This challenge is bringing us closer to colleagues and clients across the Civil Service and will establish the National School as a true centre of excellence.
I hope we have the opportunity to work together this year in our shared quest to deliver outstanding public service and value for the tax payer.
