INTERNAL CONSULTANCY

INTERNAL CONSULTANCY IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR

Managing in the Public Sector is increasingly demanding. Managers need to focus on improving efficiency and achieving excellent service delivery, and also on identifying and using the levers that are available to transform their organisation.

The National School is an approved centre for Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualifications and offers the Certificate in Management Consultancy Essentials and the Diploma in Management Consultancy. These qualifications have been developed in partnership between the CMI and the Institute of Business Consulting (IBC) and provide a structured framework for the development of internal management consultants against the IBC competence framework and levels of development.

The qualifications consist of two stand-alone open programmes run at Sunningdale (Fundamental Consultancy Skills and Developing Consultancy Skills), and a distance learning programme for those seeking the Diploma in Management Consultancy. Whichever option is followed assessment at the Certificate level will be by external assessment (CMI) of a written assignment and at Diploma level through delivey of two written assignments, a short presentation and interview on a work-based project. Both qualifications also require candidates to maintain and present a personal development portfolio as evidence of continuous professional development.

We also offer more detailed training and development in a range of specific tools and techniques aimed at helping consultants and organisations improve efficiency and operational effectiveness.

Links with IBC Certified Management Consultant (CMC) accreditation

Both the Certificate in Management Consulting Essentials and the Diploma in Management Consultancy are stepping stones towards CMC accreditation and cover the essential knowledge and content which underpin the CMC award. Candidates who successfully achieve the Diploma level qualification will have demonstrated their competence to the IBC independence level and thus be in an ideal position to consider CMC accreditation.

Tailored Services

Tailored versions of all our programmes are available on request for organisations that have a number of staff who need to be trained on the organisation’s own premises. One-, two- or three-day programmes can be organised to meet your needs.

If you have a management qualification, such as an MBA, or a large amount of relevant practical experience as a management consultant, you may only need a short, tailored programme in consultancy skills to fill a few gaps in your knowledge or refresh skills you may not have used for some time.

If you’re considering obtaining any of our accredited programmes with qualifications attached, you’ll be required to undergo the same assessment process as those attending the open programmes at Sunningdale Park.

Staff Inspection Techniques

For consultants and other professionals involved in decision making on staffing levels, grading, job evaluation and efficiency reviews. With support and guidance from experienced tutors and role players, you’ll cover aspects of the review process via a simulation. On completion, you’ll be able to provide assurance and advice about resource allocation and how it should be organised. Those wishing to obtain the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Certificate in Staff Inspection Techniques (STIC) will be required to submit a written assignment. For more details see STIC entry.
