SKILLS PROGRAMMES IN POLICY MAKING AND DELIVERY: EFFECTIVENESS IN POLICY

Delivering Policy Workshop

The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and the National School have pooled their resources and expertise to create the Delivering Policy Workshop to help Senior Responsible Owners (SROs) and their teams to turn policy directives into programmes that will deliver real benefits.

The workshop process is to explore, clarify and challenge how the delivery programme will meet the requirements of the policy. An experienced facilitator conducts the whole process, which typically requires pre-workshop interviews with the SRO and other key personnel, and a whole day devoted to the workshop itself. The facilitator follows up with a report covering the main issues raised and actions identified.

All the facilitators have been evaluated by both the OGC and the National School as having the requisite experience, professionalism and facilitation skills to lead the process. The OGC and the National School firmly believe that the full value of the Delivering Policy Workshop process can only be achieved through the full cooperation and presence of the SRO throughout, and this is therefore regarded as an imperative of the engagement.

This workshop is tailored to the needs of SROs and their teams and is delivered at the client’s preferred venue.

Practitioner Exchange Forum

These occasional workshops are run in association with the Public Management and Policy Association (PMPA) to bring together academics from the public administration community and practitioners from central and local government to look at issues affecting the way policy is developed. The workshops seek to help develop the community of reflective practitioners in government and are of particular interest to those who are involved in improving policy making in government or with an interest in the topic under discussion. We welcome enquiries about sponsoring a particular topic for a workshop.
