An amazing cottage business, The Best Dressed Crab in Town is the go-to place for fantastic shellfish on the Island, delivering the finest crab and lobster caught fresh from Isle of Wight shores. The takeaway shop is open seven days a week (including Bank Holidays) offering a tempting selection of seafood, from hand- picked crabmeat for your own culinary creations, to pre-made shellfish platters – stunningly presented, these are works of art that will impress your dinner guests with dressed crabs served in their shells, giant crab claws, cooked lobster and mussels. Don’t miss out on the local Bembridge prawns when they are in season – a real delicacy. When I visited to sample their lavish shellfish platter, it far exceeded expectations – every morsel was delicious. Even better, if you are staying in the B&B or the on-site cottage, this delectable seafood will be right on your doorstep.

You can’t miss The Ocean Deck Inn and its magnificent, nautical-themed facade watching over Sandown seafront. And once you’ve visited you won’t forget the outstanding food, the attentive service or the panoramic views of the ocean, beach and esplanade from the two luxury apartments. There’s plenty of quality fish here and fish-lovers will be overjoyed when they spy the specials board, for there are regular daily specials of freshly caught crab, lobster, sea bass, cod and various other delicacies caught from local waters. If seafood is not to your taste, don’t worry – there is fabulous traditional food on offer too, including a well-conceived vegetarian menu, a monstrous mixed grill and steak menu, pasta, salads and lighter snacks. If you’re just craving a quick refreshment, pop by and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee on the outside decking, which is directly opposite the seafront with uninterrupted views of Sandown beach.

Murrays is well known throughout the sailing fraternity and is the oldest established seafood restaurant in Cowes. It is situated in the middle of the town, just a few minutes from the marina, and present owners, Brian and Fran, are just entering their 21st season in charge. The founding principle of the establishment is to serve the very best local and regional shellfish and fish produce – simply cooked. Murrays offers a set lunch and dinner menu, à la carte and an ever-changing catch-of-the-day board. All the menus feature local meat, seasonal game and vegetarian dishes, as well as a host of great seafood. The owners are especially proud of their Bembridge lobster, crabs and English oysters – must-tries for any visitor. Enjoy your meal with something from their great selection of wine, which incorporates wines from small independent growers around the world.
