While some pubs have felt the need to modernise their decor and strip out the old, the famous Buddle Smugglers Inn hasn’t. Its owners know exactly what their customers want: a pub like pubs used to be, with quality real ales available at the bar, flagstone floors, beamed ceilings and a cosy inglenook fireplace. The Buddle is the home of live music, with excellent bands playing every night during the summer either inside the pub or on the bandstand in the garden.
‘…the home of live music…’
Food Served: Mon-Sun noon-9pm
Situated on the cliffs on the south side of the Island, next to St Catherine’s Lighthouse, The Buddle Smugglers Inn and its terraced garden look directly over the English Channel. Honest home-cooked food plays a large part in this pub’s sizeable popularity. Wherever possible, all meats are reared on the Island, and for that extra fresh touch some of the vegetables, salads and herbs are grown in the pub’s own garden.
Any time of year is right at The Buddle, whether you’re spending summer days on the terrace or a cosy winter’s evening by the roaring fire. Add in food that is quite simply to die for, as well as a special Buddle welcome for every customer, and the decision to visit this unique pub is already made.

This large 17th-Century inn is easily spotted in Yarmouth’s market square. Retaining many of its original features, the interior has been adapted to provide an eclectic mix of dining areas. Log fires, beamed ceilings and a traditional oak-panelled bar offering a comprehensive selection of wines and local ales draw in visitors looking to relax and unwind. The conservatory dining area, with its wicker chairs, marble tabletops and flagstone flooring, opens out during the summer to reveal a pretty garden courtyard.
Food Served: Mon-Sun noon-9pm
People come from far and wide to sample The Bugle’s fare, and any foodie worth their salt will beat a path to the pub’s door. A seasonal menu features firm favourites ranging from light crab brochette to hearty lasagne and stroganoff. Produce is locally sourced from the Island’s farms and fisheries, with the catch of the day to be found on the daily specials board along with a tempting range of meat dishes and pies.

In fact, The Bugle’s seven en-suite guest rooms, which overlook The Square and the sea, have been recently refurbished and now offer a luxurious yet homely place to spend a weekend. There’s even some excellent live music every Friday and Saturday evening to keep both visitors and locals entertained.
