As soon as we walked into the Forresters Restaurant we knew we were in for a treat. Nestled in picturesque Yarmouth, this restaurant envelops you in a laid- back ambience, taking you away from the everyday and transporting you to an evening of decadence and intimate dining.
Personally welcomed by owner Amanda, as live music played in the background, we took our seats. You can choose from the bright and airy downstairs dining area or the cosy mezzanine tucked under the wood-panelled cathedral ceiling. With a complimentary bowl of nuts, olive oil and crusty bread and a glass of New Zealand sauvignon blanc in hand, we settled back to read the menu and found every dish to be expertly crafted and a credit to the chef. Our starter of homemade pork belly and chicken liver paté with apricot chutney was a delightful taste combination and reasonably priced at £4.95. This was followed by mains of rolled cod and lemon sole with serrano

ham and lobster bisque and Black Gold sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce and red onion jam. Both dishes were beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. Don’t even try to resist dessert – the vanilla creme brulée with shortbread biscuit and Baileys dark chocolate torte were just the decadent and indulgent treats they promised to be.

Expect a picture-perfect setting and exceptional hospitality when visiting Shanklin’s gorgeous Rylstone Manor. Winner of the ‘accommodation and hospitality’ category at the Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for Excellence in 2011, plus numerous other awards, this hotel lays claim to nine splendid bedrooms and an elegant candlelit dining room. The manor boasts a stunning seasonal menu thanks to owner and chef Mike, who has held the Rylstone reigns since 2006. To begin, you might dine on roast pumpkin ravioli with sage butter or succulent scallops and a micro green salad with balsamic dressing, before moving on to sliced Gressingham duck breast with honey, lime and ginger.
Originally a gentleman’s residence back in 1863, this Victorian manor, with Gothic, Tudor and Georgian influences, stylish, warm decor and delightful cliff-top gardens, provides a unique venue in which to wine, dine and recline. With private parking for residents, Rylstone Manor is a good place to station yourself if you’re looking to explore the Island or spend a little time on the beach. Shanklin’s charming town centre is just a brief walk away and makes for a lovely day out – why not while away an afternoon there before enjoying some fine fare at Rylstone Manor?
