The Pilgrim Inn

 Location Hythe Road, Marchwood, SO40 4WU t: 0844 683 6603 w: www.pilgriminnmarchwood.co.uk e: pilgriminn@fullers.co.uk

Expect nothing less than a very warm welcome when you arrive at The Pilgrim Inn. Situated on the edge of the New Forest, not far from Beaulieu, this friendly, popular inn is full of olde-worlde charm, with oak-beamed ceilings and open log fires. Heading a team of perfectionists are manager Jamie and assistant manager Helen, who both aim to create a quality dining experience that guests will remember – and how they have succeeded. Creating menus – one for each of the seasons – which place emphasis on sourcing local ingredients and tailoring dishes to suit a variety of tastes has served The Pilgrim well and resulted in a loyal following.

When we visited, head chef Paul’s fantastically varied bill of fare and range of specials had a distinct taste of autumn. Each course was delightfully presented and supported by a comprehensive wine list featuring great-quality labels. Lymington crab with crayfish tian was subtly flavoured, while the rustic main course – New Forest game pie filled with venison, pheasant and wood pigeon – had real vigour. Last but not least, the sticky toffee pudding was a marvellously warming, traditional finish. Eager to guard their secret, in a flurry of whispers fellow diners also recommended the five- star boutique accommodation and fantastic breakfast to match at The Pilgrim Inn. Get in on the secret today.
