 Location 1 Town Quay, Southampton, SO14 2AQ t: 0844 683 1823 w: www.lamargherita.co.uk e: nikos@lamargherita.co.uk

Part of Southampton life since 1973, La Margherita moved to its present waterside location on Town Quay in 1998. Much larger than it appears from outside, the restaurant is divided into two areas, each with a different atmosphere. The large bar and dance floor come alive at weekends, and as there is room for seating and dining, revellers are able to enjoy an excellent meal before celebrating into the night.

Overlooking the marina, there’s a space for alfresco dining during summer and a quieter area for couples, small groups and families. Here, the traditional values of La Margherita shine through – good food and good company. You’ll enjoy homemade cuisine, often made using age-old family recipes by a friendly team with an ethos based on accommodating the wishes of the customer.

To start, we ordered the linguine – blackened with octopus ink – alongside perfectly pan-fried scallops and roast peppers and a traditional carbonara cooked the authentic Italian way with pancetta, garlic and eggs. Pleasingly al dente, the pasta was complemented by fresh, peppery rocket. To follow was a flavoursome saltimbocca al Romana, which was simply gorgeous. The veal in Parma ham was tender, yet still meaty enough to satisfy, and came served with fresh seasonal vegetables. Pan-fried sea bass with garlic lemon sauce was also beautifully cooked and melted in the mouth, as did the accompanying king prawn risotto, which was full of taste and texture.

Homemade sweet cannoli, somewhat reminiscent of puff-pastry, was filled with sweet ricotta and chocolate chips and was a complete, unadulterated delight, as was the traditionally made tiramisu. Made using a recipe that dates all the way back to the restaurant’s beginnings in the 1970s, this was a mouth- watering finale.

Food Served: Mon-Sun noon-10.45pm

Much more than a weekend party venue, the cuisine at La Margherita is genuinely excellent and has helped build the restaurant a great reputation – you might even spot some of the city’s football heroes here, especially after a home success.
