Lysses House

 Location 51 High Street, Fareham, PO16 7BQ t: 0844 683 6543 w: www.lysses.co.uk e: lysses@lysses.co.uk

A splendid example of Georgian architecture, Lysses House has been restored as a comfortable, bright and welcoming hotel and restaurant. Visit the Richmond Restaurant mid-week and you’ll find the dining room full of diners sitting at beautifully laid tables covered with snowy white cloths, mitred napkins and fresh flowers.

Chef Clive Wright places great emphasis on sourcing local ingredients and this is reflected in the well-balanced menu. For starters, we chose delicately flavoured, melt-in-the-mouth lamb kidneys served pink with New Forest wild mushrooms and finished with a mellow mustard seed sauce, as well as a hot smoked salmon salad with new potatoes, local watercress and red shallot dressing. Succulent pan-fried scallops on pea and mint purée topped with crispy Parma ham came next – divine. The lamb shank was also cooked to perfection with red wine and root vegetables.

The homemade desserts were both delicious and beautifully presented. We sampled the Lysses rich dark chocolate pudding, studded with apricots soaked in brandy, and the warm treacle tart served with Lysses’ own vanilla ice cream. Coffee with buttery biscuits and homemade petit fours really completed the meal. We left more than satisfied and extremely impressed with the attentive, polite and efficient service we received.

Tradewinds at Hilton Portsmouth

 Location Eastern Road, Farlington, Portsmouth, PO6 1UN t: 0844 683 6546 w: www.hilton.com/portsmouth e: events.portsmouth@hilton.com

Hilton Portsmouth is just a five-minute drive away from the city centre, and as such is close to all the local leisure amenities, shops and bars. However, you don’t need to look much further than Hilton Portsmouth for top-quality food and wine. Tradewinds Restaurant and Bar at Hilton Portsmouth offers an exquisite dining experience every day of the week.

Guests at the hotel or visitors (pre-booking is advised) can enjoy a sumptuous buffet breakfast in the large, bright open-plan dining area, which faces the beautiful courtyard garden. Although the breakfast is lovely, it is head chef Vinay Malhotra’s dinner menu that really sets this restaurant apart. There is a varied menu offering authentic British food, as well a number of European dishes and superb grilled offerings, which come highly recommended. In fact, all the dishes on the menu sound great – it’s a shame everything can’t be tried in one sitting. The service is friendly, helpful and efficient, and all the waiters know the menu off by heart and are happy to offer suggestions and advice.
