If a true taste of the New Forest is what you’re after, then look no further than The White Buck Inn. Found a little off the beaten track, this popular inn attracts cyclists, walkers, locals and tourists alike. They also love dogs here, and there is even a rail for tethering horses for those who come on horseback. Set in woodland, there are extensive grounds with a large terrace area, which offers the opportunity to eat outside when the weather permits.

...succulent Tatchbury Farm pork chop with a tasty onion chutney and blue cheese topping...’
Open: Mon-Sat 8.30am- 11pm; Sun 8.30am-10.30pm
We visited in early winter and so ate indoors in the gun room, a dining room with ample seating and a roaring log fire. Menus here vary according to the season and are supported by a comprehensive wine list. For starters, the forest game terrine was delicious, as was the ‘White Buck Smokie’ which boasts fish from the pub’s own smoker. The
highlight of the main course was the succulent Tatchbury Farm pork chop with a tasty onion chutney and blue cheese topping. Desserts are equally varied – perhaps sample the cherry tart or one of the wide range of New Forest ice creams. Themed evenings and hog roasts are also a regular feature. Booking isn’t essential, so just turn up and enjoy.

This tranquil retreat offers wonderful opportunities to relax, dine and escape the stresses of life. Fully licensed eatery, Kimbridge Restaurant, is a favourite both with locals and visitors from further afield (parking is ample), with welcoming staff who create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The setting is idyllic, next to the flowing trout stream, and the food itself is wonderfully traditional, just like the building.
Open: Sun-Thurs 10am-5pm; Fri & Sat 9am-5pm
For an ideal morning pick-me-up, pop in for a hearty breakfast and steaming- hot coffee. Alternatively, drop by for a wholesome lunch. For starters, choose one of the delicious homemade soups, perhaps followed by the trout, which is a firm favourite with regulars. With the river only a stone’s throw away, and the Kimbridge Trout Fishery next door, you won’t find fish much fresher than this. Annie’s is also open for afternoon tea and in the evening for functions. Scheduled events are advertised in advance, but the premises can also be booked for private parties.
If you’re on the look-out for presents for friends and family (or a treat for yourself) make sure to head to the
fantastic on-site shop, which stocks an excellent range of cards, gifts and local artists’ work. With comforting cuisine, superb produce and warm customer service, Kimbridge Restaurant provides a perfect escape-from- it-all experience.
