Southampton just wouldn’t be the same without Nick’s Restaurant, so it was with smiles all round that Nicholas Prodromou abandoned retirement to take the reigns at Nick’s once more and restore the restaurant to its former glory. With original charm and a gorgeously redecorated interior, Nick’s Restaurant is definitely the talk of the town again. Nicholas established Nick’s in 1964 as a small Greek eatery (boasting a long wooden bar shipped over from Cyprus), which has been serving up delicious food, fantastic service and a selection of excellent Mediterranean wines ever since. The restaurant’s blend of quality and authenticity has made it a Southampton dining institution.
Open: Mon-Weds 11am-7pm; Thurs 11am-9pm; Fri & Sat 11am-11pm; Sun 11am-6pm
Nick’s now specialises in Greek, English and European cuisine, so guests can dig into anything from moussaka and lasagne to a traditional roast dinner. With food arriving piping-hot, full of flavour and in record time, Nick’s is the perfect pit-stop for a quick lunch or refuelling after hitting the shops. Come the evening you’ll find the place packed
with couples, families and parties filling hungry bellies and soaking up the atmosphere. Nick’s Greek-themed nights bring a little Mediterranean spirit throughout the year. An establishment that has stood the test of time, there’s a reason this restaurant’s name has been whispered from shore to shore over the past 40 years. Visit and discover this Southampton mainstay for yourself.

This lovely little restaurant is proud to bring a taste of Greece to the residents of Southsea – and does so with gusto. With a traditional Greek feel, not only conveyed in terms of cuisine, but also through the decor and music, Steki treats guests to an authentic experience to remember. Forget about the hustle and bustle outside and lose yourself in the atmosphere of this fantastic, family-run slice of the Mediterranean.
Open: Mon 5pm-11pm; Tues- Thurs noon-2.30pm, 5pm- 11pm; Fri-Sun noon-midnight
Steki’s relaxed ambience is perfect for the enjoyment of the vast array of Greek dishes on the extensive menu, which boasts something for everyone – there’s even a cheeseburger for the less adventurous. Greek hospitality is second to none, so expect generous portions. The vegetarian mezze starter was delicious, accompanied by pitta bread straight from the grill. Main courses ranged from moussaka and calamari to the restaurant’s own special – a veritable feast combining chicken souvlaki, pork souvlaki, sausage, soutzoukakia and Cypriot-style sheftalia meatballs; served with chips and salad on
the side, it was more than a match for me. Be sure to sample the galaktoboureko – a popular Greek dessert of crispy filo pastry filled with custard and drizzled with sweet syrup – and to finish, be brave and knock back the customary shot of ouzo. The perfect venue for a birthday party or any celebratory meal.
