On the north border of the New Forest lies the Empress of Blandings. It’s easy to find and surrounded by breathtaking scenery, with an attractive garden that provides a beautiful backdrop, whatever the time of year.
The Empress of Blandings is named after a famous pig from P. G. Wodehouse’s novels and referenced throughout the building. The interior is full of warmth and character – expect to see charming porcelain pigs around the bar and quotes about the Empress herself on the walls and woodwork. The effect is quirky but tasteful, further adding to the unique experience offered by this establishment.
Famous for its ales, this pub and restaurant serves a wide selection of drinks, including outstanding, regionally brewed ale. Don’t just stick to the drinks though – the menu is delicious and packed with quality locally sourced produce. These fresh ingredients were evident in

our main of robust winter vegetable pie. Chosen from the specials board, it was bursting with seasonal vegetables, and preceded by another dish from the specials selection – creamy baked Camembert with rustic bread and grapes. To finish, desserts of baked pecan tart and sticky toffee pudding were tempting, but we eventually indulged in mini puds of lemon curd syllabub and wonderfully dark chocolate mousse. Also offering delicious snack options, the Empress’s royally good reputation is well founded.
