On approaching The Alice Lisle, you can’t help but feel you are in for a treat – its picturesque red-brick frontage, framed by thriving greenery, makes you want to step inside and see more of this charming venue. The pub’s traditional interior is reminiscent of a bygone age of olde-worlde comforts. Indeed, The Alice Lisle has a rich history – it is named after the last lady to be beheaded in England, who lived just down the road in Ringwood, and served as Rockford School until 1941. Nowadays, it offers a plethora of home comforts and quality beverages to locals and visitors in need of sustenance.

Open: Mon-Sat 10.30am- 11pm; Sun noon-10.30pm Food Served: Mon-Fri noon- 2.30pm, 5pm-9pm; Sat noon-3pm, 5pm-9pm; Sun noon-6pm

When we visited on a chilly December evening, we were certainly in need of some warming, home-cooked delights – and The Alice Lisle’s seasonal menu certainly delivered on that count. We were tempted to try a ‘Walker’s Board’, featuring a platter of tasty pork or cheese-based bites, but instead went for melt-in-the-mouth grilled goat’s cheese with beetroot carpaccio, watercress and mulled wine syrup. Next, I sampled

a Fuller’s ale alongside the rich game stew with blue cheese and parsley dumplings, before devouring the sticky toffee and date brioche bread-and- butter pudding – a perfect winter warmer. Indeed, thanks to its cosy, warm ambience, garden, large terrace and children’s play area, this friendly establishment is a top choice all year round.
