Group and convention rate


Guarantee Guaranteed booking


A rate charged for 10 or more rooms reserved as a group at a hotel. Tis rate is quoted without the commission built in (net rate). Te tour operator adds a mark-up to the final price quoted to the guests.


Pre-payment that is sent to the hotel to hold the room past 16:00 or 18:00 to guarantee a late arrival. A booking for which payment is guaranteed whether or not the guest arrives.


Guest history card Te purpose of this card is to record details of each individual’s stay and information of their personal likes and dislikes. Tis is used for regular guests.

Senior porter, who supervises other porters and doormen. Peak season, when prices are highest.

Term used to describe the major sources of business to the hotel (for example business clients or tourists).


Room, breakfast and one main meal. A rate offered to wholesale travel agents which are not commissionable.


Department working through the night that carries out posting of charges and control duties. Guest who does not arrive to take up a reservation. Te number of persons occupying the room. Te number of rooms let in a given period. A room that is out of service for maintenance.


A license to sell liquor and not consume it on the premises. A license to sell liquor and consume liquor on the premises. Te practice of accepting more reservations than there are rooms available.


Include accommodation and any other service, e.g. banqueting services, honeymoon package, deep- sea fishing, etc.


Te rate per person. Where a guest’s bill is paid in advance of his stay.


A system that allows guests to dial their own telephone calls from the room without the assistance of the operator.
