According to the Aliens Control Act (1993) a register must be kept by the hotelier recording information with regards to tourists. All guests are required upon arrival at a hotel to register their full name and nationality, or have it registered for them. Te hotelier is required to keep a record of this information which is open to inspection by the police for a period of up to twelve months.
3.2 The information required from aliens International travellers are required to supply the following information:
• their name • nationality
• passport details
• the date on which they intend to depart and • their next destination.
Did You Know It is very important for every accommodation establishment to keep record of who visits the establishment. As discussed earlier in the textbook, it is not only important in order to be able to provide SA Tourism with the data for statistical purposes it is also important to be able to do marketing effectively. One can also measure the success of previous marketing efforts. Asking guests where they heard about the hotel can provide valuable information with regards to the effectiveness of a marketing strategy – it might even indicate that a certain medium used is not successful for the target market an establishment wishes to target.
