Built Environment HND/HNC Construction and Property
What’s it about?
If you’re starting a career in construction and property, returning to education or wishing to progress within the industry, then this programme is for you. You will study a wide range of construction related topics, with options in specialist areas, in preparation for employment or further study in a particular field.
This programme recognises the general requirements of a range of construction- related vocations and covers the technical and practical aspects required to satisfy the needs of the market.
If you complete this programme at an appropriate level, you will be able to transfer one of our Built Environment degree programmes. See pages 64 - 68.
What will I learn?
Modules include: • Building Services and Science • Site Surveying • Contractual Procedures (HND) • Management Principles and Analytical Methods
• Law and Contract • Design Principles and Applications
You will also study a range of modules which will develop your professional and technical competencies as well as your presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
As well as learning the scientific and technological aspects of construction and property, you will gain knowledge about the practicalities and legalities involved in constructing, managing and maintaining a site. You will also learn about financial aspects such as tendering, estimating and property valuation.

How will I learn? Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures and seminars, complemented by project activity (group and individual) and study visits.
Where can I get a job?
Students who have studied this programme have gone on to professional and technical careers with a wide range of employers such as construction contractors, professional consultants, local authorities, housing associations and government departments.
