BSc (Hons) Architectural Design and Technology
What’s it about?
Architectural technologists provide high- level design skills in projects of all types and scales, including interior design and space planning.
As an architectural technologist, you will need to demonstrate a strong sense of design awareness, a comprehensive understanding of traditional and contemporary technologies employed in the construction process, and be competent in the use of sophisticated and powerful information and communication tools and techniques. You will be trained to the high standards required by the CIAT and the CIOB.
What will I learn?
This programme is modular in structure with credits awarded for the successful completion of each module. The programme combines academic study with the application of professional skills and competencies required by the architectural technologist. These include providing innovative design solutions and negotiating and managing the development of a construction project. You will cover technical, design, legal and commercial areas.
Modules include: • Architectural Detailing • Economics and Management • Environmental Science and Services • Design Information Management
You will also learn presentation, communication and collaboration skills, and a well-developed awareness of the industry and profession. As part of the programme, you will work with fellow students from the surveying, construction project management, and property management disciplines.
How will I learn? Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars and project work.
“My time at Salford has been a happy one. The University is a very friendly place, one which I am sad to leave. During my 3 years at Salford I have been taught by many professional and knowledgeable lecturers whom have helped me immensely to gain success. Studying part time was good for me as it allowed me to continue working - I certainly recommend Salford!”
Craig Sharpes Part-time graduate
Can I get work experience? Full-time students are given the option to take an industrial placement year. This takes place between years two and three and offers you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in the workplace and develop professional and technical skills.
Students are responsible for securing their own work placement. To help with this process we will support students to develop their employability skills.
Where can I get a job?
As a graduate of this programme, you could be employed by architectural practices, architectural design consultants, construction and specialist contractors, public sector authorities, and many other organisations who have requirements for design and technology services, including major retailers and financial institutions.
