Leisure What’s it about?
This programme provides an opportunity to study an important and expanding field. Vocational elements are combined with a solid foundation in management skills to provide graduates with the tools required for a wide range of careers in leisure administration and development.
What will I learn?
Year 1 introduces issues related to the nature of leisure and the development of sport and exercise provision. There is an opportunity to gain practical sports leadership skills.
Year 2 covers the psychological aspects of sport and the relationships between leisure and recreation in a changing society.
During year 3 of the honours degree the focus turns to areas such as sports law, policy development and to prominent issues in sport and leisure.
At each level these vocational elements are combined with the systematic acquisition and development of management skills and knowledge all graduates need in order to build a career in modern organisations.

How will I learn? Teaching is delivered through an integrated programme of lectures, seminars and practical work combining formal and informal learning opportunities; and through your own independent study.
Can I get work experience?
The Honours degree has a 12 month professional placement option, which provides you with the opportunity to develop and apply your operational skills in a real working environment.
The Foundation degree has a short placement embedded within their course structure enabling you to gain a working understanding of the industry.
All placements are supported with guidance from our placements tutor who can assist with preparing and gaining a placement suited to your interests and aspirations. This is vital for the business experience that most employers now require. Many of our students return to their placement company when they finish the programme.
Where can I get a job?
A range of opportunities exist in both the private and public sectors. Career positions in the fields of sports management and development, coaching, travel and tourism, local government and facilities management are available for our graduates.
