Founded in 1896, the University of Salford is a forward-thinking University with a rich history.

The Salford experience

We have more than 20,000 students based on our green campus which is only one and a half miles from Manchester city centre. Our new digital learning, teaching and research space at MediaCityUK, Salford Quays, is right next to the BBC and will enable over 1,500 students to work alongside media professionals right at the heart of this exciting development.

Campus and facilities We know how much modern, cutting- edge facilities add to your university experience. That’s why we‘re investing £176m over the next few years in a major project to transform our University into a vibrant, modern and pleasant place to live and study. This includes a £51m investment in two state-of-the-art new buildings for the Schools of Media, Music & Performance and Art & Design, and students will reap the benefit from 2013. And there are already major refurbishments to our existing buildings underway, including our new-and- improved University House – where students go for advice and support – which has recently seen a £3m upgrade. Not to mention, our exciting plans for a welcoming public outdoor space where students can relax in between lectures.

Minutes from Manchester Manchester is home to one of Europe’s largest student populations – and all the nightlife and opportunities that come with it.

With art, designer shopping, entertainment, plus major sporting events so close to us, it’s difficult to find another university that offers such a mix of activity, cosmopolitan atmosphere and wealth of opportunity, while being based on a leafy, riverside campus.

Top quality teaching We’re committed to delivering value for money and making your learning experience as high-quality and enjoyable as possible.

And we’re not the only ones who think our teaching’s excellent – it’s been rated highly in independent Government assessments too. We’re in the top half of institutions for research and this feeds into our teaching (RAE 2008).

Our visiting lecturers are of the highest standard and help to provide you with the expertise to give you a head start – we have experts from industries across all our disciplines. Johnny Marr, the former guitarist with The Smiths, helps to teach our popular music students – giving them the benefit of his experience of being at the very top of the music industry.
