Sports Science BSc (Hons) Sports Rehabilitation
What’s it about?
This prestigious programme allows you to apply high level academic and practical management skills to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries arising from sport and physical activity. On completion of the programme you will have the necessary skills to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal injuries in the physically active. You will also be eligible for membership of the British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT) and benefit from the professional industry insight they provide.
What will I learn?
You will study musculoskeletal injuries, therapeutic techniques and exercise rehabilitation skills, supported by a foundation in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and psychology.
Modules include: • Human Anatomy • Human Physiology • Musculoskeletal Assessment • Massage Skills
You will learn how to help injured people get back to full sporting activity by applying cutting-edge rehabilitation techniques in a lively and supportive environment. Throughout the programme, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and practise your skills in real-life situations.
To ensure practice within our programme meets legal requirements, you will be asked to give consent prior to taking part in any activities that may affect your health and safety status – for example, role play activities to practise clinical techniques.
How will I learn?
Teaching is delivered in a variety of ways including lectures, tutorials, practical sessions, clinical visits, group discussion and self-directed study. To facilitate this, we have our own dedicated treatment rooms and state-of-the-art human performance laboratory, which contain specialised equipment for testing, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and training.
Can I get work experience?
You will gain a wealth of valuable experience during four one-month clinical placements in sports injury clinics, professional sports clubs and private hospitals. You will also undertake a placement under the supervision of a specialist orthopaedic consultant surgeon.
In year 2, you may have the opportunity to spend a semester studying with one of our US partners.
Where can I get a job?
The programme opens up a wide range of career opportunities in the management of musculoskeletal injuries in venues such as professional sports clubs, clinics, private hospitals and the NHS. Some graduates choose to go on to further study or research while others have used their degree as a stepping stone to joining the armed forces or emergency services.
Recent graduates from this programme went on to work for: Manchester City FC, Bolton Wanderers FC, Warrington Wolves RLC, Chester Rugby Union Football Club, Manchester Basket Ball Club and Queens Park Rangers.
Successful applications are also subject to satisfactory health and Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) clearance.

Specific requirements: GCSE: five passes at minimum grade B to include English Language, Maths and Science. Advanced GCE level: Appropriate subjects including Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology General Studies is not accepted
