Aeronautical What’s it about?


This programme focuses on aircraft systems, flight dynamics and flight control, aviation technology, air navigation and the business issues of importance to the aviation industry sector. You will have access to our wide-ranging experimental facilities in aerodynamics, aircraft structures and systems to put theory into practice.


A total of 45 flying hours can be included within the training programme, with the twin aims of enabling you to fly solo by the end of your first year and obtain a Private Pilot Licence by the end of your second year. What will I learn?


Technology-based studies are combined with training designed to provide you with the breadth of knowledge and skills needed to operate effectively in aviation. Topics include business theory, airport operations and planning, and supply chain management.


Business skills are further developed in the group aviation enterprise activities, where time is spent at a local airport investigating the business aspects of running small to medium-sized aviation operations.

How will I learn? Teaching is delivered through a series of lectures, tutorials and laboratory classes, together with individual study and project team work. You will have a personal tutor to help with your personal and academic wellbeing.


Can I get work experience? An optional year may be spent on industrial placement in a range of manufacturing companies, typically involving aerospace industries. Successful completion will lead to the award of a Diploma in Professional Studies.


There is also the option to study overseas in Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. Teaching is in English and all EU exchanges are supported by an Erasmus grant.


Where can I get a job?


Career pathways will be into the design, manufacture and operation of aircraft and their related systems. A wide range of career opportunities will exist with main aircraft producers, sub-assembly manufacturers and airport operations.


Professional accreditation This programme is seeking accreditation from the Royal Aeronautical Society.
