The Sepawa Congress (28-30 October) in Berlin will be one of the few opportunities for the industry to come together and meet in Europe this year, and it has made the decision to become a hybrid event. While travelling in Germany

generally is considered safe, many international visitors may hesitate to fly or cannot travel abroad. The Sepawa Congress will help attendees by creating a physical event and a simultaneous online event that still gives people the ability to interact with all participants – onsite or online. The Sepawa Congress Hybrid will be the first event in the personal care, home

care, cosmetic and fragrance industry which has this innovative format. For all onsite participants, the

organisation team developed a hygiene concept together with the venue and the local government, which gives visitors or exhibitors of the physical

event, the highest possible safety. For all those who join online,

an easy-to-use tool enables delegates to listen to talks, visit company booths and collect product information, chat with staff on the booth live or send questions, meet with peers in break out rooms and much more.

ISSN 2041-0441 September 2020 PERSONAL CARE EUROPE EDITOR’S COMMENT A time of change and the need to adapt

Normally at this time of year, the diaries for the next few weeks start to fill with events, conferences and exhibitions. Many of these have transformed into digital offerings, but it will be great to see events such as Sepawa start to return in their physical format, with the option of a digital participation for those not able to travel. Perhaps the hybrid event is the future of exhibitions? The challenge for the industry is how to approach the complete

destabilisation of the concept of human interaction. This has impacted all aspects of life, beyond exhibitions – changing how people work, socialise and carry out their day-to-day duties. As a result, this has changed how people choose to present themselves to the world. There has never been a more dramatic time of change in our lifetimes, but

our industry has the resilience and innovative spirit necessary to adapt. Richard Scott, Editor
