A game-changer in skin mitochondria therapy

Mitochondria are intra-cellular organelles and their crucial function is to generate the energy our cells need to function effectively. They are characterised by two phospholipid bilayers including the mitochondrial outer membrane and the inner membrane. The outer membrane is porous, allowing


small molecules and proteins to freely diffuse across it. By contrast, the inner membrane forms a barrier that selectively transport ions and molecules into the mitochondria matrix. As a cell powerhouse, more than 90 per


cent of the cells’ energy is generated in the mitochondria, in correspondence of the inner membrane. This cell energy is generated in forms of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) by a process called oxidative phosphorylation, which is also a primary source of Radical Oxygen Species (see Figure 1). Under normal conditions these radicals are reduced to water by detoxifying enzymes. Accumulation of ROS is the result of an unbalanced neutralisation process and induces deleterious consequences; the balance between ROS production and the antioxidant defence is essential for normal cellular function. Ageing is a fundamental, yet poorly


understood biological process. A common hypothesis to explain some of the pathophysiology of age is an oxidative unbalance between the production of ROS and antioxidant mechanisms. The continuous production and accumulation of ROS is at the basis of “The Free Radical Theory of Aging”: as mitochondria are the main source of ROS production, these organelles are the major target of ROS damage. Mitochondrial structure and activity result altered, leading to a significant decrease of ATP levels. Moreover, impaired mitochondrial machinery produces more oxidative stress and more ROS production, resulting in a vicious cycle.


Mitochondria and Q10 Q10 is the only endogenously synthesised lipid-soluble antioxidant and it forms a critical component in the mitochondrial machinery. It participates in ATP production and helps make energy. In

Mitochondria generate the energy our cells need to function effectively. This cellular process also produces free radicals that accumulate over time. In order to counteract this damage, our bodies synthesise coenzyme Q10, a natural antioxidant, that neutralises destructive free radicals. The more we age the more damage is accumulated by mitochondria and naturally their activity slows down. Likewise, coenzyme Q10 synthesis is reduced. CoQ10 is a very powerful ally in the fight against ageing, but its full potential can be only exploited when it is effectively delivered in correspondence of the mitochondria. Infinitec has recently release Trojan Q10. Trojan Q10 displays a dual-mode, extremely


precise targeting ability towards fibroblast mitochondria: first targets fibroblast receptors, and once internalised into their cytosol, it targets mitochondria. Then, Q10 is released into the mitochondria. With Trojan technology, Infinitec start where others stop. By the effective delivery of Q10 in correspondence of the mitochondria, Trojan Q10 unlocks unexploited features of Q10 in conventional treatments; Q10 can now participate to the mitochondria respiration, i.e. energy production, and it can neutralise mitochondrial ROS (mROS). Only by mastering these two actions of Q10, a Q10-based treatment can achieve unexpected anti-wrinkles effect in a short time and at a very low dose of Q10. Trojan Q10 speeds up wrinkles-related cellular processes as well as it minimises mROS damage, leading to an increase in skin firmness and elasticity. The skin looks rejuvenated, with increased elasticity and firmness. Trojan Q10, is the perfect ally to make mitochondria thrive again.
