optimally adapted to dry desert conditions and the leaves protect the plant from dehydration, maintaining its vitality and keeping it lush and fresh. Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Leaf Extract offers a natural solution for stronger, firmer, impermeable and hydrated skin. It tightens skin gap junctions, leading to subsequent improvement of barrier functions, barrier repair, skin firmness and cohesion, thereby preventing the penetration of pollutants- keeping them outside the skin. A new clinical study confirms skin barrier

strengthening and pollution protection. Test method

This study evaluates reinforcement of the barrier, in vivo, to prevent the penetration of pollutants. Methylene blue was used as a model to test penetration before and after routine use of a cream containing 1% Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Leaf Extract in a placebo controlled study lasting 28 days. Products were applied once a day, split-body (left vs. right). Group size was n=26, with ages between 18 and 65 years. Dye penetration was evaluated at D0 and D28 using two instrumental methods: a. direct penetration depth evaluation by confocal microscopy (Vivascope) b. tape stripping.

5.0 Tp2 Figure 1: Tape stripping study with 1% IBR-Gapture cream at day 0 and following 28-day treatment. A decrease in dye penetration

represents an improvement in the state of the skin barrier and potential protection against pollutants. Additionally, skin cohesion was evaluated by clinical scoring of tape stripping, where the measure is the number of strips required to induce erythema (more strips required = more skin cohesion, evidenced by lesser sensitivity = greater resistance to the insult of the tape stripping), in order to provide correlative confirmation of the product’s skin cohesion improvement activity (claimed based on results of previous studies). Skin roughness was also graded clinically. Finally, study participants filled out a self-evaluation questionnaire based on their experiences with the product.

Results

The active product with 1% Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Leaf Extract showed a statistically significant improvement of the skin barrier with a 28% decrease in dye penetration. The active product with 1% Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Leaf Extract also showed improvement of skin cohesion and roughness (clinical evaluation) as well as moisture, radiance, evenness, visible health, beauty and youthfulness as reported in the self-assessment questionnaires.

Tape stripping results (Fig 1) Methylene Blue dye is removed with fewer rounds of tape stripping, meaning less penetration into the skin following 28 days of treatment with 1% Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Leaf Extract cream. Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Leaf Extract improves the skin structure and cohesion to restore moisture in the skin and resist external aggressions and pollutants via structural improvement from within the skin. The skin appears smoother, firm and hydrated and at the same time, less permeable to pollution.

Shielding against urban pollution for pristine clear skin IBR-Pristinizer (INCI: Water (and) Asteriscus graveolens Flower/Fruit/Leaf/Stem Extract) is an aqueous extract of Asteriscus graveolens designed to deliver anti-pollution protection - shielding the skin and its cells against damage from pollution.

Asteriscus graveolens extract comes

to address the skin’s need to protect from, and detoxify, harmful molecules found in pollution. The skin’s ability to defend against pollution is limited. It is possible to assist the skin with external

detoxifying/anti-pollution agents that also stimulate the skin’s self defense mechanisms to help fight the damage. Asteriscus graveolens (‘Fragrant Star’) is

an aromatic perennial plant whose habitat ranges from Morocco and the Sahara to Iraq, through the biblical deserts of Israel: the Negev, the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea area. Asteriscus grows in sandy clay beds, in particular the banks of seasonally washing wadis. In the wild, Asteriscus starts growing after the first rains, and blooms in the spring.
