quaternized hydrolysed corn starch [average MW: 250,000]) is recommended for all aqueous and hydroalcoholic (up to 50% alcohol) styling aids and can be used in rinse- off systems like shampoos and conditioners where it provides film-forming properties. Based on sprouts of organic pea, AnaGain from Mibelle reduces hair loss by inducing dermal papilla cells to reactivate hair growth. Hair loss affects both women and men. It is caused by an imbalance of the hair growth cycle leading to a reduced number of growing (anagen) hair combined with an increased number of degenerating (telogen) ones. AnaGain was shown, thanks to DNA
microarray analysis of plucked hair follicles, to activate, in the dermal papilla, specific signal molecules which are required to initiate the growth of a new hair. A clinical study conducted for three months on volunteers with mild to
moderate hair loss showed the capacity of AnaGain to reduce hair loss: l The density of anagen hair was increased by about 8%
l The density of telogen hair was reduced by more than 28%.
As a consequence, AnaGain increased the hair growth coefficient (proportion of active hair follicles) from 4 to 7.2 indicating a strong hair-regrowing effect. By reactivating hair growth, AnaGain helps the hairs to keep their original density and thickness. Natura-Tec’s Plantsoft Wax acts as a lubricant and is an excellent consistency agent for skin and hair care products. It is a preferred ingredient for decorative and hair care formulations and is an ideal base for hair wax type formulations providing gloss, texture, substantivity and body. It also improves structure, pigment dispersion and adhesion in makeup products. It improves plasticising properties and shine in lipstick, lipbalm and cosmetic pencil formulations. Men and women are sharing the desire to shave less often. To support them in achieving their goal, Sederma launched Kelisoft, a hair growth minimiser, efficient on both beards and underarms. Kelisoft slows down hair growth while
refining its diameter. The hair is thus less visible and the need to shave as often is
reduced. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, Kelisoft also provides an immediate soothing sensation after hair removal. Kelisoft contains a highly purified natural plant molecule, which regulates the production of inflammatory mediators (PGE2, IL8, VEGF) known to stimulate hair growth and which are involved in the burning feeling after shaving. Twice daily application of a roll-on containing 3% Kelisoft under the arms of 20 female volunteers for 2 months demonstrated that hair grows slower and finer, so women can skip a day between shaves. Additional tests carried out on the thick dark beard of male volunteers confirmed that once daily application of a gel-cream containing 4%Kelisoft for 2 months reduces the hair growth speed (‘5 o’clock shadow’ delayed by 3 hours) and provides a soothing sensation after shaving. Kelisoft has been specifically developed for deodorant applications, two versions are available: a water soluble one and Kelisoft OS which is oil soluble. Kelisoft is the ideal ingredient for formulations aimed at reducing the frequency of shaving while keeping the skin soft and smooth.
