l Number of hairs in telogen phase: indicator of resting hair. In the conditions of this study, the lotion containing the yeast active at 0.3% has a positive effect on hair growth after 3 months of application, which continues during treatment. After 8 months: l Hair density increased by +24.9% (P = 0.0001); effect observed in 95% of volunteers;
l The number of hairs in growth phase (anagen) increased by +49.1% (P = 0.0001). This resulted in an increase of the A/T ratio of +112.7% (P = 0.0005). The yeast active stimulates hair growth
and decreases the proportion of hairs in resting phase, thereby reinforcing and increasing density of hair (Fig 2).
Hair loss effect
The extent of hair loss was determined with the wash test method carried out by a professional hairdresser counting the hairs recovered in the sink after two successive shampoos. A reduction of hair loss is characterised by a lower number of hairs recovered.
In the conditions of this study, after 3 months of twice daily application, the lotion containing the azalea-isolated yeast active at 0.3% reduced hair loss by decreasing the number of hairs recovered after shampoo by -21.2% (P = 0.0259). This effect continued and intensified after 6 months of treatment to reach a mean hair loss reduction of -30.9% (P = 0.0011) with a maximal decrease of 81%. Finally, after 8 months of treatment, the
product stabilised hair loss by limiting the number of hairs lost by -34.0% (P = 0.0005).
