Thiamin Vitamin B1 is very important for the healthy maintenance of the hair, clear and youthful skin. Thiamine is involved in many functions connected with the nervous system and also in the formation of nerve fibres. Our skin has millions of nerve endings for varied sensory purposes. Damage to the nerves leads to reduced, or loss, of skin sensitivity. A deficiency of vitamin B1 causes sensitivity of the skin, teeth, gums and cheek. Cracks also may appear on the lips with high skin sensitivity. As deficiency of vitamin B1 causes anaemia and reduction in blood supply to the scalp, hair fall, premature greying of hair and poor growth of hair are experienced.
Copper
An important ally in skin care, finding its way into numerous creams and lotions designed to hide the appearance of wrinkles and maintain youthful skin. Proteins serve many important roles within the body, including repairing damaged tissue and constructing new tissue. Peptides are the small fragments of proteins instrumental to healthy skin. Copper, a trace metal found in the body’s cells, attracts these peptides and binds with them, forming substances known as copper peptides. In essence, copper acts as a conveyance, carrying nourishing protein to damaged skin.
Chia seed oil (Salvia hispanica) Chia seeds are typically small ovals, approx. 1mm in diameter with a mottled colouration of brown, grey, black and white. Chia seeds contain 20% protein, 34% oil, and 25% dietary fibre. The oil from chia seeds contain a very high concentration of omega three fatty acid, approx. 60% in the oil. Chia seeds contain no gluten, the oil is light yellow in colour and has almost no odour, and does not go rancid, is easy to store and is not contaminated with pesticides, chemicals or heavy metals. It offers a medium weight non-greasy skin- feel, is rapidly absorbed to leave a soft cushioned after-feel.
Chia seed is traditionally consumed in Mexico, the South Western United States, and South America, but is not widely known in Europe. Jesuit chroniclers referred to chia as the third most important crop to the Aztecs, behind only corn and bean and ahead of Amaranth. Tribute and taxes to the Aztec priesthood and nobility were often paid in chia seed.
High in protein, chia is in fact a complete
source of dietary protein, providing all the essential amino acids. Compared to other oils, chia oil provides the highest source of protein, between 19 to 23 per cent protein by weight. One of the unique qualities of

the chia oil is its ability to absorb more than nine times its volume in water or other liquid; this ability can prolong hydration and retain electrolytes in body fluids, especially during exertion or exercise. Normal fluid retention ensures electrolyte dispersion across cell membranes, maintains fluid balances and aids normal cellular function. The skin is the natural barrier that
controls moisture and temperature within the body. One of its main components is omega-3 fatty acid, which is an integral part of the skin’s protective layer. When the integrity of this layer is lost, irritation, dryness and peeling can all take place. Generally such events are seasonal and/or are found in stress areas such as the fold zones (elbows and knees) or the face and scalp, but can be found elsewhere on the body. Chia seed, and oil, naturally contain more than 60% omega 3 fatty acid, this is one of the highest percentages of omega-3 in any natural oil. It has approximately three to ten times the oil concentrations of most grains and one and a half to two times the protein concentrations of other grains. These unsaturated fatty acids are the essential oils your body needs to help emulsify and absorb the fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K. Chia seeds are rich in the unsaturated fatty acids, linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, which the body cannot manufacture. Cranberry seed oil (Vaccinium macrocarpon)
Cranberries have long been associated with healthy living, by either drinking the juice or eating them whole. Traditionally processed for the juice, some of the healthier parts of the cranberry have been discarded.
