OUR VISION FOR ATTENDANCE

At Matravers, we require students to attend every day. Our expectation is that students have the highest attendance possible, 100%. This is achieved by many of our students, year on year, and is reflected in their GCSE and A Level outcomes. Whilst we are aware that, on occasion, children can fall ill, for the majority of conditions we have the medical facilities to support students through the day. Should your child be too ill to attend school, it is compulsory that the school is informed of the reason for their absence, on every day of absence. Evidence in the form of a doctor’s note will be required for repeated/prolonged absence. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do contact the school.

If a student accumulates 5 days of unauthorised absence, then each parent can face a Fixed Penalty Notice. Should this not be paid, or the attendance not improve, then each parent can expect to be prosecuted by the Educational Welfare Service. The outcome of

this may result in Parenting Order or a severe fine; these have been over £1000 per parent.

Reminder: Requests for Absence during Term Time

In exceptional circumstances, should you need to withdraw you child from school, we require the appropriate paperwork to be completed well in advance of the date of requested absence. We are unable to amend the school register retrospectively concerning absence requests. The documentation is available from Matravers School Main Reception.

Holidays cannot be authorised under any circumstance. Attendance to school is compulsory by law and the school can no longer authorise holiday requests. The absence of a student for 5 days or more due to a holiday taken during term time will result in a Fixed Penalty Notice, issued by the Local Authority.

We look forward to celebrating even more of our student’s attendance next year and break more records!
