Year 10 (continued)

with National Average this year, minimising the effect this has on results and as has been the case for a while, poor behaviour really stands out and is dealt with accordingly, blending support with our usual tough stance on standards. Not every child is the same in terms of their needs, and myself, Mrs Dovey, Mr Phillips and now Mr Solomons (who oversees Year 11) are already in discussion about tailoring support for those who need it.

PARENTS EVENING

It was great to see so many of you at our penultimate Parents’ Evening and hear about so many great conversations. Please do take the time to look at MBU3 with your child and reflect on what they said they’d do after Parents’ Evening versus what they have achieved. A tough conversation now is much easier than leaving it until next year’s meetings with staff. Please don’t hesitate to contact us of you need to speak to someone sooner, of course.

NEXT YEAR

This year has seen our most comprehensive Year 11 Period 6 programme ever and I look forward to contacting you in September with the details of how these extra sessions can best support your child. For Year 11, school does not end at 3pm and attendance is very much tied in with our rewards system and Prom. The students will get a break and a hot chocolate and then the opportunity of extra tuition in subjects where perhaps extra work and support is needed.

FUN IN THE SUN

It’s not just about the classroom, as the previously mentioned groups of students prove. One of the highlights of the year was taking our Inclusion students on a trip to the Holborn Museum in Bath. This is a very closely-knit group, who have matured wonderfully under the guidance of Mrs Venables this year. They worked hard on their individual projects and there was some great photography going on. My cricketing skills were sorely tested in the afternoon and Dean Barratt most definitely got lucky bowling me out.

It’s been a great year, once more. Going into Year 11, I can see the finish line and I can’t wait to cheer them over it!

MBU

I know Year 10 are a huge part of our community but also as our third Pupil Progress Day approaches, I am writing on MBU3 deadline day and it is with excitement that I wait to see where we’ve got to in terms of achievement. Attendance has been in line
