elimination race. All the cadets demonstrated their “steel” in extremely hot conditions but Corporal Bradbeer was incredible running twice for her team in four races and annihilating her competition at the same time.

Day 3 was our adventure training day at Roadford lake, during the day the cadets participated in Windsurfing, Paddle boarding, dinghy sailing and raft building. Paddle boarding was definitely the favourite as the cadets played king of the hill on the paddle boards, cadet Campbell came away with the matravers crown. The weather stayed pleasant throughout the day and the water temperature kept the cadets comfortably warm whilst they went through the activities.

Our fourth day took us to Exmouth for our range day, this was really successful as everyone had the opportunity to fire the Cadet GP and complete their Basic shooting qualification. This day was really well structured as the cadets progressed from the Designated close combat trainer to the 25 metre range culminating with an 100m scoring shoot on an Electronic range which was an excellent piece of kit. Our stars for the day were Cadets Fullen, Jordan and Rudland who all achieved our highest scores and Cadet Fullen and Rudland had the opportunity the fire the Light Support Weapon (LSW) becoming the first cadets in the Contingent to do so.

motivating the team to keep pushing themselves.

We scored full marks in First Aid, 875 out of 1000 in the climbing challenge, extremely highly in the section attack, close quarter battle simulation, drill and shooting stands. I couldn’t have been more proud as the Contingent overcame challenge after challenge and pushed everyone else competing to keep up or get out of the way! L/Cpl Symonds and Cadet Watson were excellent during the Wyvern Challenge and the team really benefited from their drive and competitive nature.

In the end we were within the top three contingents for the week and the wyvern challenge, this sent a strong message to the other contingents throughout the South West that Matarvers have arrived and will be challenging you.

Thursday evening was the Camps award ceremony, Cpl Cannings and Cadet Veall came away with individual awards. Corporal Cannings was recognised as the best cadet on camp whilst cadet veall was recognised for his endeavour during the adventure training day.

SUMMER FAYRE SUPPORT

In a short turnaround from Camp and as a thank you to all the support we have received from the council, the cadets volunteered to support the Westbury summer fayre. The Contingent supported two shifts, acting as guides, map suppliers and any other general assistance that was required. The cadets conducted themselves wonderfully and once again were a real credit to the Contingent and School.

PARADE NIGHTS WYVERN CHALLENGE

Our final day of Camp was the Wyvern Challenge, this is a competition between the Contingents completing ten different challenges linked to the cadet syllabus. We entered two teams into this challenge and the cadets really threw everything they had into it!

Cadet Jordan also received a field promotion to the rank of Captain for the day which threw a lot of people off, as they all believed she was a genuine Captain. Captain Jordan fulfilled her role very well and upon receiving her promotion was very quick to demand her salutes from Lt Hervey and 2Lt Paginton.

Both teams acquitted themselves fantastically over the course of the day and Cpl Cannings and Cpl Bradbeer both displayed their excellent leadership skills throughout the day. Constantly taking care and

Training has continued to focus on syllabus completion during Tuesday parade nights and the cadets have made good progress toward their first star award. Tuesdays have also been used to prepare the cadets for camp, we recognised last year that good administration was key to ensure the cadets had enough free time to relax in the evenings.

Thursdays have focused on individual section programs and the section commanders and NCO’s have been working hard to ensure our program is as varied as possible!

We have completed our inter section archery completion where Alpha Section retained their title, we have had Sgt Rymer visit from 1 Regt AAC and provide some kickboxing instruction. 2Lt Paginton designed and set up a grenade throw challenge involving some water balloons, which has become extremely popular. We have just completed our first Inter section shooting competition with Bravo Section winning the points available and the cadets are still preparing for the end of term Drill competition, which may sway who wins the inter section competition.
