PE (continued)

The Match against Melksham Oak for her two superb catches as a fielder.

On 21st June, a mixed Year 7 & 8 team travelled to John of Gaunt for fixtures against St Laurence, St Augustines & John of Gaunt. The girls played amazingly, coming away with 2 wins and a draw. It was a pleasure to see all their hard work in training pay off, and the smiles on their faces in the minibus on the way back!

The 26th June saw the final year 7 rounders fixture, the tournament held at Melksham Oak school. Despite the extremely hot weather the girls put on a stellar

performance, winning two games and drawing the third. The girls played outstandingly as a team, as they have done all season and I am very much looking forward to next year.

performances of the day came in the triple jump, where some students had only had one lessons to learn the difficult skill within the event. Jack Gilroy jumped 8m 67 a full meter on his previous personal best; Trystan Hurkett jumping over 9m for the first time, recording a jump of 9m 14; and Ella Pearce jumping 8m 42 after doubling up and also jumping in the long jump.

and supported each other with the majority smashing personal bests or enjoying the competitive atmosphere of their first competition for the school.

Year 7 had some great results competing in their first of many athletics events for Matravers. Callum Slade achieved a personal best in the 800m running 2 minutes 54 seconds, and Tony Adams achieved a personal best in the long jump, jumping 3m 95cm. Ella Saffhill also achieved a PB in the girls’ team running 32 seconds in the 200m. Many of the stand out

The year 8 rounders team had their tournament on the 5th July at Kingdown. As the sun was shining the girls prepared for their matches against St Augustines, Clarendon, John of Gaunt, St Laurence and Kingdown. The girls put on a strong performance throughout the tournament, despite the extremely hot weather. Ellie Johnson captained the team and encouraged all team members throughout their games and the girls played well as a team. The result was not what we had hoped for, however, given that it was the first time that some of the girls had played for the team, it was a performance to be proud of. I very much hope that the girls continue to play rounders and I look forward to coaching them again next year!

AREA ATHLETICS

A team of 58 athletes participated in the West Wiltshire Athletic Championships held at Bath University. Despite the adverse weather Matravers students competed hard against the best athletes in the area determined to beat their rivals. Throughout the day students motivated

The students battled hard all day with many top three finishes. Cody Joyce won the javelin with a throw of 20m 94; Samantha Kirk finished first in the high jump, jumping 1m 25; James Payne finished 3rd in the 300m with a time of 45.76 seconds; Todd Pearce finishing 3rd in the javelin with a throw of 20m 53; Lilly Sperring finished 3rd in the high jump, jumping 1m 25; Nick Brisdon finished 3rd in the javelin throwing 23m 05; Rachel Godden finished 3rd in the 800m 2 minutes 55 seconds and running a PB in the process; Sam Gillingham finishing 2nd in the discus throwing a PB of 20m 87.

A special thank you to Tiffany Crockford- Ward, Ella Pearce and Chloe Kinder in year 11 for coming back to compete in their fifth area athletics.
