Year 8 (continued)

“On the 3rd July 2018 Year 8 from Matravers School visited Bath Spa University to learn more about higher education and what life is like as a university student

from our fantastic Widening Participation Ambassadors. They also experienced exciting hands-on workshops, which included a chance to work on the green screen in the TV and Film studio as well as being able to explore the campus at Newton Park, spotting some sheep along the way! The day concluded with lunch at the amphitheatre outdoors in the lovely sunshine and a university quiz. It was a great day for all and we hope to see them again next year!”

Kimberley Ang

Bath Spa University Widening Participation Outreach Officer

“I enjoyed the trip because I got to experience what things there are to do and opportunities and courses I can take at University.

I enjoyed the campus tour and learning about the history in and around the University and the Royal Family owning the land. Everyone across the day including the university ambassadors were very nice and helpful.

The thing I enjoyed the most was getting to use my free new water bottle I got from the University and taking

everything I had experienced back home and sharing it with others. I also enjoyed using the green screens they had and the film studios as well.

I would definitely go again and highly recommend for others to attend a University day trip and to anyone that is unsure of what to do later on in life.”

Other notable events included an enormously successful and positive parents evening. It was great to hear so many positive comments coming from parents and teachers alike about the conscientiousness and diligence of the individuals within our year group. The girls within the year group did especially well and faced HPV immunisations with maturity and resilience so well done to them for addressing the whole process so sensibly.

A small group of boys had a reading Patron workshop in which they were invigorated to pick up more books to read and increase the love of literature and reading. The visit went very well and once again comments were made on the excellent behaviour, attitude and participation of the year group in the session.

Our previous celebration assembly just before Easter was again a great event with lots of fun and games had, with a great atmosphere created by the students by getting involved in all activities and the ethos of the event. These included “Matravers does strictly”, fun relays and quizzes and team games. Once again, there was a wide range of names that were awarded the certificates and prizes from the various departments within school for great attitude and work. A list can be seen below of the prizes given.
