PE (continued)

Sports Day 2018 was a great success, with students achieving personal bests in athletics events with a number of records tumbling. Every student was involved in some way, either in athletics, competing in track and field events or in a PE lesson where they had an hour learning how to participate in rockit ball, tennis, table tennis, trampolining, archery, fitness, and dance. Athletics remained as the focal point of the day and it was great to see the enthusiasm when both staff and students were competing, especially the 1500m where a record forty students from each year group competed. The overall results from each group are below, with some year groups closer than others.

The PE Department

SOCIAL SCIENCES From September 2018, the Social Science department will be restarting two popular A Levels; Sociology and Philosophy and Ethics. These subjects already have a big uptake for next year and build on the knowledge gained within a variety of GCSE subjects.

The Sociology course will introduce students to key sociological perspectives like Marxism and Feminism in the context of modern society and education. Philosophy and Ethics students will be trying to answer big philosophical questions about the meaning of life and morality.

There has been great success in the Psychology department this term as the Year 13 students have successfully completed their A Level exams. Two of these Year 13 students have received unconditional offers to continue studying Psychology at university. Our Year 12 Psychology students have finished their end of year exams. The department has seen some excellent work form Chloe Williams, Molly Turner, Amina Khanom and Joe Crossley who are going to make a strong start to Year 13 in September.

The department is now selling the recommended revision guide for the Psychology course. These are available to buy for £12.89 via SIM Agora accessible via the schools website.
