JUBILEE CHALLENGE

We entered two teams in this year’s Jubilee Challenge, undertaking Route 1 12.5 km and Route 2 14 km. We arrived at Okehampton on Friday morning and proceeded to undertake our registration, briefing and scrutiny by the army prior to being allowed onto the Moor.

The teams were awoken by the sound of chariots of fire at 5am, to give them enough time to get ready, have breakfast and make their way to start. The teams set off together but broke apart shortly after as their routes took them to different places.

to push themselves further to get their silver medals. With plenty of checkpoints to get stamped the boys were never short of breaks whilst they queued at each one. They were high spirited enjoying good weather, making plenty of jokes about me going trips as I stumbled a couple of times.

After reaching the final Tor, they could see the finish line and how little they had left to go. Following a quick refill of water they increased their pace dramatically determined to finish in good time. On their way they sped past other teams but keen to stick to tradition they had stop to visit the portaloos on the hillside prior to crossing the finish line.

Route 1 setting off from the start point up a hill seemed daunting to the team but they overcame this and continued onward, taking it in turns to lead getting to the next checkpoint. Gaining more enthusiasm as they recorded each stamp on their check point cards, the team made great progress which was facilitated by good weather conditions.

Jack Kitson who was on his silver medal walk, motivated and inspired the team as they demonstrated fantastic team spirit, with lots of big smiles and enjoyment. Due to the weather and conditions the team had an excellent opportunity to enjoy Dartmoor, experiencing a new environment, new sights and lots of wildlife. Route 1 completed their route as the fastest team and the school are extremely proud of them for all their hard work.

Route 2 The boys set off with pace noticing a difference in difficulty from last year’s route, as this team had completed Jubilee Challenge the year and really wanted
