GUITAR FUNDING


Matravers School is thrilled to have been awarded funding by Wiltshire Music Connect to fund new guitars for our guitar scheme. This scheme really resonates and supports our fantastic performing arts status. The scheme is run on an annual basis in Year 8 and every child in the school experiences at least one term learning guitar fundamentals. Our intention is to increase uptake on the guitar over the coming years by providing students with the opportunity to learn an instrument they may otherwise be unable to access. We are hopeful that the scheme will lead to an increase in guitarists and singer songwriters.


The Music department has run guitar based trips to exhibitions this year and we have also started a guitar club and a song writing club. In year 9 we have introduced Musical Futures style workshops where pupils try different instruments on a carousel before committing to one for a final performance.


These extra guitars will allow us to provide a much greater variety for these workshops and hopefully students will be inspired to pursue peripatetic lessons on the guitar. We hope that students embrace this opportunity and enjoy experimenting on a new
