Outdoor Education (continued) DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD
This is our most successful year for DofE since Outdoor Education was introduced and it has taken some building! 22 students have completed their Bronze Awards and 5 are within touching distance of their Silver. We will continue to build on DofE at Matravers, with plenty of opportunities planned for the forthcoming academic year.
Workshops will continue on Mondays and if you are going into Year 9 please see Miss Paginton or Mr Fairnington if this is something you would be interested in pursuing.
SCUBA
As we look to continue to improve and increase our outdoor education activities, this year students have had the opportunity to participate in “Try Dive” sessions are Vobster Quay. When undertaking these sessions the students were introduced to the equipment, learnt the most important role of being underwater “to breath”, progressed onto equalizing their air spaces, using hand signals and clearing water from their mask.
When underwater the students had to use their Buoyancy Control Device to allow them to dive whilst becoming accustomed to breathing underwater with their regulator.
All the students who have taken have really enjoyed it and we look forward to organising more try dives for students next year.
