YEAR 11
Writing this is bitter sweet- on one hand I feel incredibly sad that I am losing my year group but on the other I feel incredibly proud of them and excited to see them off onto their next chapter.
It has been a real privilege to stand alongside, support and watch the year group turning into beautiful, intelligent young adults. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you the parents and carers of year 11 pupils, who’s engagement with the school has enabled your child to flourish and make the most of their time here at Matravers and ultimately achieve their full potential.
PERIOD 6 ATTENDANCE
I have been really pleased with year 11’s ethos towards their revision and exams. Attendance to the bespoke period 6 lessons has been above 70% every week so this has enabled pupils to consolidate their learning and fill any gaps in their knowledge with subject specific teachers. As an added incentive pupils were able to collect staff signatures on a reward card every time they attended a period 6, the number of signatures received then equated to a certain amount of discount on their Prom ticket!
EXAMS
I cannot fault year 11’s behaviour during all of their exams. They have arrived on time, settled quickly into the exam routine and have supported each other throughout.
This year is the first year that Year 11 have been offered to take jelly babies, apricots or raisins into the exam hall with them. The idea behind this is to keep those energy levels high! Year 11 responded well to this.
A LITTLE NOTE FROM YOUR TUTORS...
11.2, MR OAKLEY Two years ago I was given the news that I would be taking over as tutor of 10.2. As you can imagine a range of mixed emotions raced through my brain. How wrong I was. After 31 years of teaching, this group of young adults have restored my faith in the world. Caring, considerate, thoughtful and kind, are just a few of the ways I would describe them. Yes there were times when we disagreed about the length of skirts, nail varnish, the purpose of homework and fairness within the system, but this was only because they felt they

Now that their GCSE exams are over I am confident that within their group we have future business leaders, teachers, human rights lawyers, engineers and whole host of people working within the caring and creative professions. As well as a desire to achieve they all have some of the most important attributes that will guarantee that they will succeed and work well within a global community, they smile, are courteous and have brilliant sense of humour. I wish them all the happiness and success that they richly deserve and if in doubt, just eat Cake!!!
11.4, MISS HUGHES
It truly has been an honour watching you all grow in confidence and watching you all develop your own personalities. You have all worked extremely hard especially these past few weeks in regards to your exams. I am super proud of each and every single one of you as you should be too! I wouldn’t change any of you for the world, thank you so much for being the BEST tutor group ever! I wish each of you every success in life as I know you will all go on to achieve great things! All the best! Keep shining bright!
11.6, MR CLARK
My ally is Education, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us.
11.5, MISS ROSS
You guys have really kept me on my toes over these past two years and it’s been an eventful journey getting to know you all. We’ve had our highs, winning sports day was a personal favourite of course. Girls, you’re a dramatic bunch! But I can honestly say you’re some of the loveliest, most helpful and most cheerful pupils I’ve come across – so keep on with that. Boys, you may be noisy and stubborn, but this shows confidence and determination – so use these to your advantage and they’ll see you through. Some final advice, stay focussed on your goals, keep your head up and look after each other.
Good luck everyone!
