YEAR 10


Year 10 have now entered the territory of lasts. Their last sports day, last M-Fest, last Term 6. We’re not nearly done yet, of course but the conversations have really switched to ones about final outcomes. It’s a scary time for them and it won’t be an easy year, but they know this, and they know what they must do. The conversations I’ve had with them post-exam week have been interesting, discussing what they need to put in to get the results they want and deserve. Although challenging, this is why exam weeks, given our current assessment system, work so well. Regardless of all the pretty revision cards and reams of highlighted pages their upcoming MBU3 results will show them whether they’ve done enough or not.


SENIOR STUDENTS


As Year 11 approaches so does the responsibility of them being at the head of the main school and we have entered our prefect selection cycle knowing we have a year group populated with leaders from very diverse pathways. Of course, a big focus for me this year has been seeing our first ever Future Leaders Award cohort through and watching their confidence and focus soar. Their graduation ceremony, where they were presented by Bath Rugby’s Stuart Hooper (Director of Performance and Player Development) was a proud moment for staff, students and parents alike. These are natural candidates for prefects, of course but Year 10 can draw form our Dance and Drama leaders, our cadet force, our Duke of Edinburgh cohort and our sports leaders to ensure we get a fantastic cross section of the year group as role models for the rest of the school. Applications are open to everyone in the year group and they must answer the question, ‘What does community mean to you?’. The role of the prefect has been up for discussion by students and they’ll be expected to support lower school tutor groups, plan their Prom in addition to carrying out school duties during social times.


EXAM PREP


In support of this we’ve explored mindfulness this term, introduced by our Pastoral Manager, Mrs Dovey and our THRIVE hub mental health professional. Stacey Sapsford is on site twice a week to support students with any issues they may have, especially exam related ones. When tutor times switched to revision sessions early in Term 6, every tutor ran daily 3-minute sessions of students getting some quiet time to reflect and accept the day to come and approach their revision and learning calmly.
