CAREERS

Mr Creed, our Higher Education Advisor from Bath University has been working with students in year 9, 10 and 12 supporting them with careers advise and looking into career pathways. Many students in these year groups have also received additional support from Careerpilot either in small groups, or 1:1.

Through this support, some year 12 students have received the opportunity for attend a week long residential and university lecture days in subject areas that they are interested in.

During terms 5 and 6, the first ever STEM based Careers club has been running for students in years 7-10. Students have been learning about Cosmetic Science including how to extract scents from plant material for use in cosmetics, getting the right viscosity for cosmetics and also how do get the right amount of Fizz in bath bombs. Students are currently working on their designs for a Bath bomb competition entry with Mrs Chesters. They will then bring their designs to life and make everything from the packaging to the bath bomb itself.

Regular club attenders:

• Year 10: Casey Binns-Dobson, Rebecca Jones and Liarna Joyce

• Year 7: Tamsin Ball, Tillie Chalke, Harmony Curtis, Gracie Osmond, Chloe Patton-Cuff and Ellie-Rose Pringle • Year 8: Poppy Midgley, Ruby Whittaker and Molly George

Following on from the Women in Engineering trip for year 10 girls in term 3, a second trip to Avon Rubber PLC in Melksham for a group of year 9 girls interested in engineering took place on 22nd June. Students took part in 2 workshops where they learnt more about the stages of the design process and how to sketch these as well as presentation skills when sharing new design ideas This was followed by a tour of the company and then ended the day by taking part in an engineeing competition.

Maddie Hill, Lauren Strand, Phoebe Groves and Molly Morris.
