CURRENT YEAR 10

Maths Club has been busy this term using their skills to design theme parks, create sundials and plan their strategies for an alien invasion. We also decided to challenge STEM club to a showdown! STEM club invited us to participate in an engineering challenge – which we won! This was followed by us inviting STEM club to participate in a logic challenge….well done

STEM club. As we were both so close, we decided to team up for the final challenge and are currently in production for our Maths Miniatures (Maths in the Natural World) entry to the UKMT.

KEY STAGE 3 STEM CLUB

STEM club have been busy creating, designing and exploring this term. After several hands-on, practical challenges (including an engineering challenge against Maths Club) some logical and financial investigations, we have started work on our final major project. In collaboration with Maths Club, we are working to create videos that showcase mathematics in the natural world. This competition will be judged within the school and the winning entry will be entered into the UKMT Maths Miniatures competition.

PROBLEM SOLVING IN MATHS

1. If you take 2 apples from 3 apples, what do you have?

2. How many animals of each species did Moses take with him in the Ark?

3. If you drove a bus with 43 people on board from London and stopped at Liverpool to pick up 7 more people, what’s the name of the driver?

4. Do they have a 4th July in England? 5. How many birthdays does the average man have?
