BATH UNIVERSITY YEAR 12 LANGUAGES EXPERIENCE DAY
During my last term of Year 12, I had the opportunity to visit the University of Bath for a Languages Experience day, which delved into what it would be like to study a language at university, as well as aiding me in my current French studies. As an A Level Languages student, I was thrilled to be able to experience what my future may turn out to be like and to also have the opportunity of interacting with other languages students and gauge my progress.
The day involved a campus tour that enabled me to picture more clearly life at university, as well as narrowing down my options in terms of what type of university I would like to attend.
There was also a taster lesson, given by a French professor who teaches at the university; I was gripped by the activities we had to complete and ready to venture outside of my comfort zone, making the day a very worthwhile experience.
Overall, I was delighted with the way the day went and I feel very lucky that I was able to go and explore the university. I would recommend these types of days to anyone who is planning on going to university – not just languages students – or who is unsure as to what to do next: they really help to give an outline of university life and meet with new people.

FRENCH KS2 STRETCH AND CHALLENGE EVENT 10 JULY 2018
We welcomed 15 year 5 pupils from our local feeder schools to a French enrichment workshop on the 10th July. The aim of the event was to give the pupils the opportunity to learn some key vocabulary and structures to enable them to order food and drink in a French café and to put this language into action in the second session and enjoy the French food they had requested!
The Learning Resources Centre was set out like a French café and during session 1, the pupils used a card game to help them learn the key food and drink words and to practise the key phrases needed for ordering food from the waiter and for asking for the bill.
In session 2, one pupil from each table acted as the waiter and the pupils had to use the language from session one and order in French from the menu on their table. The pupils then enjoyed completing a table- top quiz about France whilst eating and prizes were awarded to the winning tables!
The year 5 pupils were amazing and they tried really hard to use French throughout the activity. They rose to the challenge of having to think on the spot and use the French they needed and realised that they could still be understand even with a few mistakes - it is making the effort that is important!
