SCIENCE YEAR 6 SCIENCE CLUB

We have recently had the pleasure of running a crime scene investigation club for Year 6 students who visited for their transition days. Students conducted food and chemical tests on samples to identify which contained ‘arsenic’ poisoning. Using their problem solving skills alongside scientific experimental techniques, they were able to identify the culprit. It is these experimental techniques and transferable skills that support students with being successful in their science examinations, but also develops the skills they will use in their future careers as well.

SCIENCE STARS FOR THIS ACADEMIC YEAR

• Kaelan Rankin-Moore has been nominated by Mrs Teale for consistently putting 100% effort into each and every task he is set as well as supporting others with making progress. He has continued to surpass expectations with his own work also.

• Mr Lee has nominated Lilly Dimambro, who he describes as a smiley, enthusiastic and talented student who shows an excellent attitude in both her work and behaviour. She is always enthusiastic; willing to answer questions and carries herself with good humour. Her work is of an outstanding standard and yet she does not become complacent and is always eager to be challenged further.

• Miss Haggart has nominated Matthew Gainey as he always has many ideas, which he brings to lesson and shares with the class. He demonstrates a real enthusiasm for science and is a very hard-working student.

• Mrs Church has nominated Lucy Parker as she is a hard working student who always goes the extra mile, both with homework and classwork. She helps others in the lesson and always gives 100% with everything she does. She shows excellent pride in her work.

• Matthew Leonard has been nominated by Mrs Roughley who she describes as an incredibly talented, dedicated and ambitious scientist. Matthew is a student who the rest of the class turn to for support with their learning and he is always happy to oblige- explaining ideas clearly for others. On the rare occasion he makes a mistake, he is very reflective and demonstrates resilient. He presents confidently in class, thinks creatively during practical work and clearly enjoys learning.

• Mr Feltham has nominated Jayah Dowling for making an excellent start to secondary science. Her progress has been consistent and her contributions to lessons are incredibly positive. The effort and attention to detail she puts into her homework is remarkable for any student, and this is replicated in the quality of her classwork. Jayah has a keenness to improve her work, and her purple pen work is thorough and reflective.

Well done to all of the Science Stars nominations for the consistently high expectations you set of yourselves. We look forward to another brilliant year in science next academic year.
