COMPUTING
It has been a brilliant year for the ICT and Computer Science department. Students across all year groups have enjoyed a wide and varied curriculum. It has been a joy to hear positive feedback from both students and parents as the year has progressed.
Our year 13 students triumphed by conquering web design and creating websites for their BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificates. It seemed like a big challenge for them at the beginning but they persevered and the end results were smashing.
Social Media use by businesses has been the focus this term for year 12 IT students. They have investigated how Social Media is used by businesses and how various variables such as time of posting, type of posts and platforms used affect the success of raising a the profile of a company. It has been fascinating. Some of the students may well have bright futures running social media campaigns for businesses so watch out for them in the future!
Year 11 worked so incredibly hard in the run up to their exams. It feels like a lifetime ago that they were
attending additional period 6 revision sessions to brush up on the areas where they felt lesson confident.
It was lovely to welcome year 6 students for an after school coding club this term. Students wrote programs to draw shapes and some even managed to write programs for beautiful tessellating shapes – their goal was for the shortest and most efficient program. With this set up they were then able to change the variables in the code to create a variety of shapes.
In September the department is looking forward to welcoming a new member of staff to the team. Mr Hartley is a specialist Computer Scientist and will amongst other things be teaching our new A Level Computer Science course. It is very exciting to be able to offer this course alongside our longstanding Level 3 BTEC in IT qualification.
